Santo Domingo - Cardeñuela de Riopico

Great day yesterday! Covered about 60km, including crossing the Montes de Oca, just passed Belorado. Those included a challenging ascent, medium length with very steep sections, and a fun, long, fast but safe descent.
We were aiming originally for Agés, just past the mentioned climb. Then noticed we were behind schedule to arrive in Santiago, so thought of going at least to Atapuerca. But arriving to the famous town (see about prehistoric archeological excavations), found ourselves with strength, and decided to push through the seemingly short, steep bump after Atapuerca, and stay just past it, before Burgos, at Cardeñuela de Riopico, which seemed nice on paper.
The "bump" proved way more challenging than originally anticipated. Steep, lots of small and medium rocks, polished by the thousands of soles and tires that step on them. Worth the climb to find a beautiful cross at the top, enhanced by the light of a setting sun, and surrounded by gorgeous views.
We went down into Cardeñuela and decided to at Albergue Santa Fe: what a DELIGHTFUL place! Great find. Beautiful new construction in quaint, warm and welcoming style. We decided to get a double room, which for only 35 euros was superb, and included its own bathroom, towels and gel/shampoo. The albergue has its own bar/restaurant. It well is run by a welcoming and hard working woman. Highly recommend it.
Now onto Burgos and beyond. Flats and blazing sun. Talk later!
